Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur star, Jamie Redknapp, has hit out at Arsenal following their Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg 2-0 defeat against Newcastle United.
Arsenal failed to beat Newcastle in front of their home supporters at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.
Mikel Arteta’s side was without one of their best players Bukayo Saka against Newcastle due to a hamstring injury.
Two goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon gave Newcastle the win over the Gunners.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp said Arsenal are ‘toothless’ without Saka.
“No shots on target for Arsenal in the second half,” Redknapp said.
“It shows you without Saka they are toothless.
“No pace in the team; they missed him so badly, didn’t have enough quality and didn’t look like they would ever get anything.”
The Magpies will host Arsenal in the return leg at St James’ Park in February.
Saka, who missed the first leg, is also expected to miss the second leg as he is currently recovering from a leg injury.
The England international picked up the injury last year during Arsenal’s Premier League win against Crystal Palace.
