Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has named the very player who helped Arsenal beat the Magpies 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday.
Newcastle led the Gunners 1-0 until the 85th minute when the Gunners equalised and went on to claim a hard-fought win in the 95th minute of the added time.
Howe thinks it was Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, who came on as a substitute in the second half, that made the difference.
Nick Woltemade headed Newcastle in front in the first half at St. James’ Park, and they held on until late into the second half before Mikel Merino came off the bench to equalise.
Brazilian defender Gabriel then headed home a dramatic winner deep into injury time from Odegaard’s corner.
“Two really late goals here at home hurt,” Howe said after the game. “We have to reflect and acknowledge that we weren’t at our best
“I think Odegaard made a difference to their overall performance. The weight of pressure eventually told. No lack of effort, but the little details have cost us.
With the victory, Arsenal closed the gap between them and Liverpool to just two points.
Mikel Arteta’s side took advantage of Liverpool’s defeat to Crystal Palace earlier on Saturday.
