Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has given reasons he dropped Benjamin Sesko from his starting XI to face Liverpool on Sunday.
Sesko was left on the bench for United’s trip to Anfield, despite scoring in two consecutive matches.
Amorim opted for Matheus Cunha upfront, supported by Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount.
After the 2-1 win, Amorim explained that he decided to leave Sesko out in a bid to stop Liverpool’s defensive duo of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
“Sometimes the characteristics of the game change the way you are going to approach the game,” Amorim added.
“So I think, for example, [Matheus] Cunha, in the middle, if we put Ben [Sesko], I think it’s easier for these kinds of centre-backs to control our striker.
“So we try to do that, but when you win, is so smart, the coach is amazing, and then when you lose, there’s something wrong with the manager. I understand that.”
