The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a suspected drug trafficker, recovering a vehicle and 15 bags of dry leaves believed to be Indian hemp.
The arrest, according to a statement released on Sunday by DSP. Ramhan Nansel, the Command’s spokesperson, took place on August 31, 2024, at approximately 1:00 pm.
Nansel stated that the suspect, identified as Saturday Gabriel, a 43-year-old male from Edo State, was arrested while one accomplice managed to escape.
He said the police recovered a Toyota Camry with the registration number Lagos KSF 843 FN, which was being used for the illegal operation.
The Police PRO further added that the arrest was made following a tip-off that a Toyota Camry with two occupants was heading toward the Nasarawa Toto axis. The vehicle was suspected of being involved in criminal activities.
In response, police personnel from the Toto Division were deployed strategically to intercept the suspects.
The vehicle was successfully intercepted in the Gadabuke area of Toto Local Government Area, leading to Gabriel’s arrest and the recovery of the suspected contraband.
Nansel stated that the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia.
He said the case will then be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
