The Benue State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to clamping down on criminal activities across the state, following the recent arrest of suspected cultists, a gunrunner, and armed robbers.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday regarding the upsurge of cult activities and other crimes in Northbank, Makurdi, the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Police Command, CP Steve H. Yabanet, has ordered all Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to clamp down on cultism and other crimes within their areas of responsibility.

According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Benue Police Command, SP Catherine Anene, the renewed commitment of the command led to the arrest of twenty-six (26) suspected cultists and armed robbers within the Makurdi metropolis.

She said the suspects arrested include Auwal Sani AKA Flasher, 44 years; Sabo Abdullahi, 31 years; Idris Ibrahim, 20 years; Shaapera Emmanuel, 23 years; among others.

“These suspects were arrested at their various hideouts after gathering detailed intelligence about their activities.

“Exhibits recovered include two locally made pistols loaded with live ammunition and illicit drugs. Investigation is ongoing to arrest other suspects.”

Anene further stated, “On 18/11/2024, at about 10:25 hours, while police officers were on routine stop-and-search duties along Ikyobo-Agbede road, Ushongo LGA, they intercepted one Daniel Emmanuel on a motorcycle.

“A search at the spot led to the recovery of two (2) locally made pistols in his bag. Investigation is ongoing to unravel his source and the receivers he intends to supply.”

She added, “On 9/11/2024, at about 19:00 hours, information was received that while commuters were on transit from Calabar to Abuja, their vehicle broke down along Makurdi-Lafia road, and some robbers along the road attacked them and robbed them of their belongings.

“During the investigation, the following persons were arrested in connection with the case: Aondona Kyemtu, 22 years; Aondona Ahile, 23 years; Solomon Tarkaa, 40 years; Solomon Iorember, 40 years; and Isaac Yerkula, 23 years.

”Exhibits recovered from them include two phones, foodstuffs, and clothing identified by passengers as their goods. Suspects have been charged to court.”

Anene warned hoodlums disturbing public peace in the state to relocate for their own good or face the consequences of their actions.
