Operatives of the Sokoto State Police Command have effected the arrest of some suspects in connection with the protest held in Sabon Birni, headquarters of Sabon Birni LGA, over the death of the abducted District Head,
Isa Muhammad Bawa.

The deputy public relations officer of the Command, ASP Isah Mohammed, made this known in a statement in Sokoto.

He said some miscreants had set ablaze private and public utilities, including the 25 housing units constructed by the state government to serve as accommodation for officials posted to serve in the area.

The statement said that the Command would thoroughly investigate to unravel the individual groups behind the protest in the area.

“Police will not fold arms to see disgruntled elements disturbing public peace in the name of protest, anyone found wanting in connection with the protest will certainly face the full wrath of the law.”

According to the statement, a detachment of mobile police personnel has been drafted to the area to keep peace, while calling on law-abiding citizens in the area to go about their normal business as police are there to protect them.

The Command, however, cautioned the general public against taking laws into their own hands, especially on matters that require judicial processes.

Urban Express News Online recalls that suspected gunmen along Sokoto/Sabon Birni road on Wednesday attacked and abducted the traditional ruler while returning to his domain after a meeting in the state capital.

The monarch was said to have died after spending 25 days in the hands of his captors, which, however, sparked protests in the area.
