The House of Representatives Committee on the Navy has announced that it will investigate the detention of naval personnel, Abbas Haruna, who has been held for six years.

Mr Haruna was allegedly detained at the behest of Brigadier General M.S. Adamu.

Yusuf Gagdi, the Chairman of the Committee, made this announcement on Monday in a statement shared on his official handle.

In the statement, Mr Gagdi, a lawmaker from Plateau State, said his committee would ensure that those involved in the matter are held accountable for their actions.

It will be recalled that Mr Haruna’s wife, during an appearance on the popular Abuja radio show *Brekete Family*, recounted how her husband was detained without trial.

Mr Gagdi described the detention of the naval personnel as “inhumane” and a violation of his rights as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution.

“The degree of heartlessness exhibited by Brigadier General M.S. Adamu towards his subordinate over a minor incident has drawn widespread condemnation from millions of concerned Nigerians who heard the story,” he said.
