On Saturday, Liverpool’s perfect start to the Premier League season ended against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Before the match, the champions had won their opening five fixtures and were looking good to retain their trophy.

But Eddie Nketiah’s 97th-minute finish means the unbeaten run is over and their rivals can catch up on them.

One of those would be Arsenal.

Last weekend, the Gunners needed a late Gabriel Martinelli goal to draw 1-1 with Manchester City at the Emirates.

The result saw manager Mikel Arteta come under a lot of criticism over his team selection and tactical approach to the game.

On Sunday, Arteta takes his team to face Newcastle United.

St James’ Park has not always been a good hunting ground for the Spaniard.

Last season, the Geordies won three of their four games against Arsenal, keeping a clean sheet in all of those matches.

Defensively, they remain stubborn, with four clean sheets from five this term, but goals are in short supply on Tyneside as they look to adapt following Alexander Isak’s departure.

This is a game Arteta would be looking to take all three points from and cut the gap between them and Liverpool.

It will start from his starting XI. But with captain Martin Odegaard back from a shoulder injury, you would expect that he will get it right and reassert his team’s desire to win the title this season.
