The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 16, 2024, Ondo State governorship election, Agboola Ajayi, has accused the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, of destroying the legacy of late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu as it concerns the Amotekun security outfit.

He made the allegations during the Ondo State Governorship election debate put together by Channels Television on Sunday.

Urban Express News Online reports that the governorship election in the state will be held on November 16, 2024 with the two former Deputy Governors as main contenders.

According to the PDP candidate, security in the state has deteriorated under Aiyedatiwa who is the candidate of the All-Progressives Congress APC.

“What we have put in now in Ondo State (Amotekun) under the late governor, not just us but the entire South-West region, we looked at what was happening then, kidnapping here and there, and said what can we do?

“I must give it to our late boss, he had the courage and boldness to say we must establish Amotekun which is more or less a state police arrangement. But unfortunately, these days, that legacy is almost destroyed by the incumbent governor,” Ajayi said.

Ajayi was the deputy governor to Akeredolu during the late governor’s first term in office.

He said that he contributed to the formation of the security corps.

According to him, Aiyedatiwa does not know the pain they went through to ensure the establishment of Amotekun and for this reason, does not care about improving the outfit.
