The Chairman of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Emeka Wogu, has reiterated that the commission was not established to compete with state governments but to complement their efforts in advancing regional development.

He made this statement during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, at the Government House in Owerri.

Wogu noted that the SEDC’s mandate aligns with the developmental priorities of state governments and seeks to bridge critical infrastructural and economic gaps in the South East.

According to him, “The SEDC was not created to compete with state governments but rather to play a complementary role with Imo State in the drive for development, as SEDC is focused on addressing key developmental gaps in the region.”

On his part, the Managing Director/CEO of SEDC, Mark Okoye, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to regional transformation, focusing on road networks, urban renewal, transportation projects, and electricity stability for businesses and communities.

He also emphasized security and stability, stating that the SEDC would collaborate with state authorities to enhance road security and general safety.

He reassured the governor that the SEDC would remain transparent, accountable, and focused on delivering measurable progress.

Speaking earlier, Governor Hope Uzodimma thanked President Bola Tinubu for actualizing the South East Development Commission.

He described the commission as a long-overdue initiative that provides a strategic platform for advancing the region.

He said, “SEDC and state governments are partners, not rivals.

“Not all projects must be economically rewarding. You must be vigilant, prudent, and focused on value addition.

“Infrastructure, security, and power are key.”

Uzodimma assured the SEDC of Imo State’s full cooperation, urging them to engage deeply with state governments to maximize developmental impact.
