Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested two suspected kidnappers in the state.

The two suspects, namely Kamsiru Abubakar, 20, and Akhor Daraman, 28, were arrested by operatives of the Operation Rescue team attached to the Okuaihe Divisional Police Headquarters.

Moses Yamu, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday in Benin City.

Yamu said that during a preliminary investigation, some suspected victims identified the suspects as part of the group that kidnapped them last year.

According to the statement: “On 05/02/2025 at about 0945hrs, upon receipt of credible information that suspected kidnappers were sighted somewhere at Ugonoba village in Uhunmwode Local Government Area, the DPO Okuaihe, leading the operatives of ‘Operation Rescue,’ stormed the location. The suspected kidnappers took to flight on sighting the police. They were chased, and the duo of Kamsiru Abubakar, 20, and Akhor Daraman, 28, were arrested.

“During the preliminary investigation, as news of the arrest circulated in the town, some individuals who were victims identified the suspects as part of the kidnappers who kidnapped them last year,” the statement read.

Yamu said that the Commissioner in charge of the Command, Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, assured the people of the state of improved security and safety and appreciated them for cooperating with the command.

He stated that the Commissioner also solicited more useful information, adding that the strategies employed by the Command are yielding positive results with the arrest of suspected kidnappers.

He added that investigations have been expanded to arrest other members of the kidnap syndicate.
