Bandits have attacked and killed two officers of the Kaduna Vigilantes Service, KADVS, in the Tasake community, in the Ungwan Mayana area of Gayam Ward, in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The vigilante officers were killed in an operation to protect farmers.
Checks From Urban Express News Online indicate the attack also resulted in the deaths of two local farmers while scores were abducted, including one Amina Adamu, who was travelling from Buruku, where she took her daughter for medical treatment on Tuesday evening.
The source explained that the vehicle of the victims was forced to stop around 4:30 pm on a bridge inside Kwaga village in Gayam ward.
Amina and her sick daughter, along with an unspecified number of passengers, were reportedly kidnapped, while other passengers in another vehicle managed to escape.
According to sources: “A group of terrorists started shooting around 11:00 am and noon in a village called Tasake in the Ungwan Mayana area of Gayam ward in the Birnin Gwari LGA.”
He also explained that KADVS engaged and killed some of the terrorists while others ran with gunshots.
“It was unfortunate the vigilantes were ambushed by the bandits. Yahaya Nasafe and Yakubu Umar paid the supreme price and two other farmers were also killed,” he added.
According to him, only an offensive joint military operation against the terrorists’ hideouts would tackle the lingering insecurity challenges.
He also appealed to the National Communication Commission to monitor bandits’ communication to be able to track their locations, assist security agencies with the coordinates and block their lines accordingly.
When contacted, the Kaduna State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, said he would address the story in due time.
