Olaleye Idowu

Former Super Eagles attacker, Brown Ideye, has lamented some costly mistakes by goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, in Nigeria’s 2-1 win against Lesotho on Friday.

It was a nervy moment involving goalkeeper Nwabali and the defenders in the dying minutes of the World Cup qualifying game in South Africa.

Captain William Troost-Ekong put Nigeria in the lead from a spot kick in the second half, while Akor Adams came off the bench to make it 2-0.

However, a costly error from Nwabali gave the home side some hope as they pulled one back.

Lesotho nearly got their equaliser late in the game when the goalkeeper repeated almost the same error.

“That was bad communication from Nwabali. And it happened again, imagine that ball went in,” Ideye said on Super Sports.

“The ball was going on slowly, and I was screaming no. Thank God that they didn’t equalise,” he said.

The 2-1 win over Lesotho did not, however, change the Super Eagles’ position in Group C as they remain third and must beat Benin in Uyo on Tuesday while hoping South Africa fails to win against Rwanda to keep their qualification hopes alive.
