The incoming Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, has vowed to win the trade war with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Carney was also defiant, making it clear that his country will “never” be part of the United States.
The Liberal Party overwhelmingly elected Carney on Sunday to succeed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
He told party supporters in Ottawa: “We didn’t ask for this fight. But Canadians are always ready when someone else drops the gloves.
“So the Americans should make no mistake—in trade, as in hockey, Canada will win,” he said.
“Canada never, ever will be part of America in any way, shape, or form.”
The 59-year-old is set to take over from Trudeau in the coming days but must hold elections by October.
