Olusegun Ariyo
During My Stay as reporter with Thisday Newspaper, Thursday column from one of it brightest Editor, Olusegun Adeniyi has always been my favorite. It is nothing spectacular other than what catches my fancy, essentially in the way he landed in one of its columns with Title “Every Body Needs Help”. The subject matter attracted my attention, not because of how the caption looks like, but the ingredients it serves.
The significant of that ingredient was when the author, Olusegun Adeniyi went through an encounter with a mad man, while on his way entering into a car wash plant with the intention of washing his car and then how the mad man, flagged him down and on his part, he requested to know if the mad man actually needs any help and where he refused to respond. Olusegun Adeniyi on his part said he didn’t boarder much, given the way the said man went away leaving him in isolation with the question he initially asked, ”whether he truly needs any form of assistance”.
The Understanding is that since the man was actually looking tattered, it is assumed it to be that he was actually a confused person but that wasn’t it, according to Adeniyi, after finishing with washing of his car, and about to drive out, the mad man again flagged him down, this time, he ask, do you really need any help” and in response, the mad man replied, ”Everybody needs help”, and that was it
What left me gasping was the submission of the said person, who said everybody needs help. it is indeed very instructive submission that reminds me of who truly I am. The thought never occurred to me not until after reading through the said column coming from Thisday’s Editorial Board Chairman, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, and that which comes with a very sound lessen reminding me of the fact that we’re just mere mortal in front of our maker and while on earth, it will become burden on us not be of help to those who truly needs one, hence the reality that every must in one way or the other, needs one another
Even the bible affirms in romans 14: 13-23 that one shouldn’t be stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother. This was the thought that resonates with me after it was announced that an Assistant commissioner of police, Chike Olusegun Oti was diagnosed with 5th stage renal failure known as an end stage kidney failure occasioned by unmitigated high blood Pressure.
Chike Oti, our path crossed when he was appointed the Lagos state police public relation officer. His inter-personal relationship status was out of this world, very detribalized officer, who sees every one as his brother. His engagements was very professional that every journalists that came across him can testify.
Once you need any help in terms of clarification during press campaigns, be sure of getting it solved. Today, Oti is gone down in need of help that nobody is above. We all needs it, in the way the mad man replies Adeniyi. Even in our last Moments in life, we’ll need it, daily endeavor is not left out equally, it remains very inevitable, therefore, the significant of it all is for Nigerians to be their brothers ‘keeper as it is presently needed by this amiable officer whose time has come in need of financial assistant in attending to life threatening ailments
Accordingly, it is that Oti is presently at lagoon hospital in a location at bourdillion street in Ikoyi and was recommended he must undergo hemodialysis twice a week for him to survive ultimately, even though he has been spending from his pocket on the said ailments, where his earnings can no longer bear the value of the expenditures anymore and that which final value for ultimate treatment will cost Twenty-five million Naira for the transplant, and unfortunately, his income cannot accommodate such amount which is why he needs help from well-meaning Nigerians who believes everybody at one point or the order, may need help and come to his Aid with the understanding of making him stay alive. Indeed, everyone needs Help, lets do it now to save a wonderful Nigerian, Chike Godwin Oti.
