Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a crackdown on the Boko Haram terrorists responsible for the deadly attack on the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State.
The attack, which occurred on Thursday at around 12:10 AM, claimed the lives of two police officers, Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat, while leaving another officer critically injured.
The terrorists, who exchanged gunfire with officers on duty, were eventually overpowered and repelled with the assistance of the civilian joint task force stationed nearby.
In a statement released on Friday and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, the IGP condemned the attack and described it as a heinous act of violence.
He directed the Zone 15 Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, to mobilize resources and collaborate with other security agencies to ensure the perpetrators face justice.
The IGP expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased officers, assuring them that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
“We honour the bravery of Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat, who laid down their lives in the line of duty,” he said.
He also pledged that the benefits and entitlements of the fallen officers would be promptly paid to their families.
The statement further emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining security and accountability.
“As investigations continue, the IGP reaffirms the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to holding accountable those who jeopardize and disrupt the safety of Nigerians,” it read.
