The US Africa Command, AFRICOM, in collaboration with the Nigerian Government, has carried out additional kinetic strikes against ISIS targets in northeastern Nigeria.

AFRICOM, which made this disclosure on Monday, noted that no US or Nigerian forces were harmed during the strikes, adding that intelligence confirmed the targets were ISIS militants.

It added that complete assessments were ongoing, reiterating that the removal of the terrorists diminishes the group’s capacity to plan attacks that threaten the safety and security of the US and its partners.

AFRICOM reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging specialised US capabilities in support of its partners to defeat shared security threats.

This comes after United States President Donald Trump announced that American forces, in collaboration with the Nigerian Armed Forces, carried out a joint military operation that resulted in the killing of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, identified as the second-in-command of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, ISIS, worldwide.
