The Director, Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Sam Amadi, has said that contemporary political processes cannot guarantee good governance.
Amadi said this during an interview on Arise Television while reflecting on the conduct of primary elections in Nigeria.
However, he said that it does not mean that good governance cannot emerge from time to time.
Amadi added that the process itself is flawed and often lacks structure or sequence, noting that there is nothing consistently orderly about it.
“Today’s political process cannot logically guarantee good governance. What is needed is a sense of realism.
“Democracy, as an ideal, requires a gradual and structured process of democratisation that starts with getting the basics right. It may take time, but the foundation must be solid.
