The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the abduction and trafficking of a newborn child, following an extensive investigation led by the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.

The case was reported on May 5, 2025, at the Ajah Police Division by a man who raised concerns over the sudden disappearance of his 16-year-old cousin, Miss Happiness, who was pregnant at the time by an unidentified individual.

Financial hardship had led the complainant’s mother to temporarily place the girl in the care of one Nonye Osi.

However, rather than offer support, Osi allegedly conspired with accomplices to relocate the minor to an undisclosed location.

When she was later found, both the baby and the pregnancy were missing, prompting the transfer of the case to the SCID for a more thorough investigation.

Detectives soon uncovered that the infant had been sold for N3 million.

The arrested suspects include: Nonye Osi, Akintan Adedayo, Jimoh Bashiru, Elizabeth Bishop, and Bukola Oladapo.

Police operatives were able to trace and recover the two-week-old baby from Agemuwo in the Badagry area. The child was rescued in stable condition and is currently receiving care from the Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit ahead of his planned reunion with his biological mother.

The Lagos State Police Command asserted its commitment to safeguarding all residents and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to ensure all those involved in the crime are brought to justice.
