World Cup: Why Eden Hazard Defends Senne Lammens After Costly Mistake Against Spain
Former Chelsea star Eden Hazard has defended Belgium goalkeeper Senne Lammens after he made a costly mistake in his country’s 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-final 2-1 defeat to Spain last week.
Recall that Lammens had spilt Pau Cubarsi’s long-range strike into the path of Mikel Merino, who scored a late winner for Spain against Belgium.
The Manchester United shot-stopper replaced Thibaut Courtois, who was forced off with an injury during the encounter.
Speaking about Lammens, Hazard urged not to be too hard on the goalkeeper, describing him as a great goalkeeper.
“Senne is a great goalkeeper,” the former Real Madrid player told Stake.
“He’s already proved that at club level, and I am sure he will prove it with the Red Devils soon enough.
“People should not be too hard on him. He had to come on in a quarter-final and replace Thibaut Courtois, the best goalkeeper in the world.”
