Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has revealed the Liverpool player the Blues targeted during both sides’ Premier League tie on Saturday.
According to Cucurella, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca told his team to exploit the weakness of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah during the encounter at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea took all three points against Liverpool at home, thanks to Estevao Willian’s late goal that handed Enzo Maresca’s side a 2-1 victory.
Cucurella provided the cross in the box, which the Brazilian converted.
“We know that [Mohamed] Salah is always ready for the counterattack, so we practised that and our manager [Enzo Maresca] said that the space might be there [on Liverpool’s right side],” Cucurella told Sky Sports.
“We saw that it was the last minute, but we kept attacking. I tried to give my last effort, and Enzo gave me the ball, and I crossed for Estevao.
“I think we deserve it [win against Liverpool]. We started the game very well, and then in the second half, we started not in the right way again – we need to improve these things.”
Chelsea’s next match is against Nottingham Forest after the international break.
