Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has slammed Manchester United for failing to ‘address’ the ‘obvious issue’ in their squad.

Crouch hit out at the Red Devils, suggesting that their almost £200m spending on players last summer was not put in the right places.

Manchester United signed the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Senne Lammens in the summer of 2025.

Nothing has changed at Old Trafford as the Red Devils lie 14th place in the league table after six matches, only winning two games so far.

Just last weekend, United were beaten by Brentford, with the Bees running away with 3-1 victory at the GTech Community Stadium.

Amorim continues to keep faith in Altay Bayindir in goal for United, while Lammens, who joined for £18m Royal Antwerp is still waiting to make an appearance.

Crouch pointed out that Manchester United have no reliable first-choice goalkeeper.

Crouch said he is surprised that the Red Devils did not bring in Gianluigi Donnarumma or Emiliano Martinez.

“It feels to me that the situation with the goalkeeper just hasn’t been addressed,” Crouch told TNT Sports.

“It feels like they’ve got three number twos now. It’s an issue that was obvious, Andre Onana wasn’t going to be the No. 1, we knew that at the start of the season, but the situation still hasn’t been addressed.

“They brought in Senne Lammens, but he’s not starting yet; he’s a young lad who’s only had one full season in football.

“I don’t know why when you’ve got Donnarumma or Martinez available, the situation wasn’t resolved.

‘They don’t think Lammens is ready; he’s still a young man, so maybe he will be in the future. But United have always had dominant goalkeepers, look at Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar.

“With Martinez, it felt obvious for him to come in; he’s dominant and fits the stature and personnel that Manchester United need.”

United will play Sunderland in their next Premier League game and would hope to produce a better performance against the newly promoted side.
