Barely 24 hours after Governor Monday Opebholo assumed Office, the Edo State House of Assembly on Wednesday confirmed Samson Osagie as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state.
Urban Express News Online reports that Governor Monday Okpebholo has sent a letter to the House requesting a supplementary budget to enable the government to function.
Okpebholo had, shortly after taking the oath of office as governor on Tuesday, announced the nomination of Samson Osagie, as the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
The governor also nominated Dr Cyril Oshiomhole, a son to the former Governor of the State, Adams Oshiomhole, as Commissioner for Health designate.
The lawmakers in confirming Osagie, a two-time member of the House and former member of the House of Representatives who represented Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde Federal Constituency, said the nominee was cleared as a result of the importance of the office to the governance in the state.
The Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, told Osagie, as a former member of the House between 1999-2007, to take a bow.
Agbebaku said taking the bow was in line with the tradition of the House, in recognition of the contributions of former lawmakers.
He said the confirmation of the other nominee, Oshiomhole, would be considered on Monday, November 18, 2024.
The Clerk of the House, Alhaji Yahay Omoigba read the letter requesting the supplementary budget, personally signed by the governor.
Omoigba said the letter was for the revision of the 2024 supplementary budget earlier revised by the immediate past governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki.
The Speaker, however, referred the request to the House standing committee of appropriation.
Agbebaku gave one week to the committee to submit its report to the House for consideration and approval.
